Phospholipids are building blocks of lipid bilayers. They also play a major role in the formulation of phospholipids. Based on Dr. Chapman’s results, Ms. Divya Devaramapally conducted a research on the thermal characterization of the phospholipid 1,2-ditetradecanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DMPC) and its dried form. She suggested some of the complex behavior of DMPC might be due to presence of moisture. She also inferred that the dried form of DMPC can provide a more consistent starting material than “as is” form of DMPC. She used a vacuum drying treatment for removal of moisture in her research. In my research a heat treatment will be used to remove the moisture. It is essential to know the chemical stability of heat treated DMPC as it has significant effect on formulation of liposomes. Thus main purpose of my research is to analyze the chemical stability of heat treated DMPC. The stability indicating method will be developed and optimized. The optimized method will be validated.
