NCAA Division I Athlete Anxiety Study
by Ethan Hall

Developed under the guidance of:

Dr. Elizabeth Lange
Exercise Science

The purpose of this study is to measure trait anxiety levels in NCAA Division I athletes. Anxiety is described as an increase in feelings of apprehension and arousal. (Levitt, 1980). Further, anxiety is very closely related to our personal concept of fear (Cox, 1994). Anxiety is a natural and ever present part of the sporting world that all participants must deal with on different levels. The levels of anxiety can vary greatly and can come from many different sources. The goals for this study are to identify anxiety levels of NCAA Division I athletes and to make comparison to certain demographics. The Sport Competition Anxiety Test (SCAT), which was developed by Rainer Martens, is the anxiety measure used in this study. A demographic form is also used for comparison purposes.
