Ac-Di-Sol is also known as croscarmellose sodium. Glycolys is also known as sodium starch glycolate. Both are used as super-disintegrants as pharmaceutical excipients which are hydrophillic and amorphous in nature. The rate and extent of disintegration is based on the water wicking and rapid swelling capacity of these excipients. The effect of particle size, presence of water, amorphous or crystalline nature are studied for both the excipients using Master sizer analyzer, Moisture sorption analyzer, Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). Based on the results obtained from these studies, disintegration properties of both excipients were determined and compared. Thus better excipient among the two can be concluded along with the effects of water content and storage conditions that may affect the final dosage form.
