Title: Corneal Ulcer
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Corrie Struble , Exercise Science
A collegiate baseball player presented with redness in his right eye. He was referred to the university health center on 9/25. He was then referred to a local optometrist upon evaluation. The athlete was informed he had a serious infection in his eye that could spread throughout his eye within twenty-four hours if left untreated. The gram stain revealed an infectious corneal ulcer that was caused by the bacteria pseudomonas aeruginosa. On 10/2 the athlete returned to full activity. These epithelial lesions can greatly affect vision if not treated quickly and immediately.
