Title: Hypothermia And Colorectal Surgical Site Infections: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Igor Danelisen , School of Osteopathic Medicine
Surgical site infections (SSIs) are estimated to account for one-third of hospital-associated infections. Maintaining perioperative normothermia is recommended by WHO, CDC, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists as a measure to reduce the risk of perioperative complications including SSIs. Despite this emphasis, evidence to support the relationship between hypothermia and SSI in colorectal surgery is not conclusive. This study presents a comprehensive view of hypothermia including presence, duration and severity in relation to the risk of SSIs in colorectal surgery.
