Title: Cubist Influences in Siegfried Sassoon’s “Repression of War Experience”
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Gina Peterman , English

Although World War I poet Siegfried Sassoon rejected the label of modernism, his work bears subtle influence of early twentieth-century advances in the visual arts. In fact, his war poetry exhibits several primary elements of Cubism: e.g., fragmented structure simultaneous yet contrasting perspectives raw emotion and the confinement of bourgeois social expectations. This fusion of literary techniques with those of the visual arts creates a jarring, visceral glimpse into the traumatic realities of a war-torn, modern existence.
