Title: An Analysis of Herpes Zoster Prevalence and Associated Predictors Utilizing the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey: 2006-2015
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Melissa Holland , College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences
The incidence of herpes zoster (HZ) has increased over the past 60 years. This study evaluated trends in patient visits with a diagnosis of HZ over the years 2006-2015 utilizing data from the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) and analyzed associations of HZ with socio-demographic factors of interest. There was no significant change in the prevalence of HZ visits across the study years. Adjusting for factors of interest, visits with a diagnosis of HZ were significantly less likely for those aged 18-49, non-white, with 4 or more chronic conditions, and insurance payment type of ‘Medicaid/SCHIP/Other’.
