Title: Analysis of End Stage Renal Disease and Renal Transplantation
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Robert Larson and Dr. Howard Reisner , School of Osteopathic Medicine
Routine cadaveric dissection revealed a kidney in the right lower quadrant of a 61-year-old white female who died from respiratory failure. In addition, two bosselated, atrophic kidneys were identified in the retroperitoneum. The patient was presumed to have suffered from end stage renal disease (ESRD) and to have undergone renal transplantation. Histologic sampling of native and transplanted kidneys was performed to determine the cause of kidney failure and to assess the condition of the transplanted kidney.
