Title: Ovarian Cancer and the BRCA Gene

"Background: A 61-year-old female reported to her general practitioner complaining of abdominal pain. Her general practitioner, the patient was placed on a FODMAP diet; however, symptoms worsen. Treatment: Over the next three months, the abdominal pain increased. A computerized tomography scan showed abnormal masses and an omental core biopsy diagnosed her with ovarian cancer. Treatment included a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, omentectomy, and six rounds of chemotherapy. Uniqueness: Ovarian cancer is one of the rarer forms of cancer. Conclusion: It is important for women to be aware of their risk factors for ovarian cancer, and be educated on the preventative measures available. "
