Title: Bimalleolar Fracture With Syndesmotic Rupture In A Division I Collegiate Softball Player
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Sarah Christie , Exercise Science

A softball player slid into second base, with her left leg extended and right leg flexed. Her right shoe got caught in the ground, causing all of her body weight down onto her right ankle. She was evaluated and referred to a physician. The radiographs revealed a malleolar fracture, fibular fracture and syndesmotic rupture in the right leg. The orthopedic physician recommended ORIF. Due to persistent pain, the athlete was referred to an ankle specialist for an arthroscopy. This revealed a vast amount of scar tissue from the initial injury. The scar tissue was removed and the athlete noticed a positive difference.
