Title: Development of a SPE method for extraction of estrogens and estrogen metabolites from MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines and their quantitation by HPLC-UV
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Brianne Raccor , Pharmaceutical Sciences

The prolonged exposure to estrogen and its metabolites may be a predictor of carcinogenesis. The goal of this project is to develop a sensitive and reproducible solid phase extraction (SPE) method to extract 17beta-estradiol and its metabolites from the MCF-7 breast cancer cells. In order to develop a valuable SPE method, the recovery of the analytes should be maximized and unwanted impurities removed. The method is developed by adding a known amount of compound to MCF-7 cell lysates and loading, washing, and eluting from a SPE column. The amount of compound recovered will be determined by HPLC-UV.
