Title: Development and Characterization of 2-Hydroxypropyl β-Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complex of Prednisone
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Daniel Shin , Pharmaceutical Sciences

Prednisone, a glucocorticosteroid, is lipophilic drug, which is practically insoluble in water. It is widely used as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant medication that can treat allergic and breathing disorders, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, lupus, or psoriasis. A way to enhance its water solubility, dissolution, and bioavailability is to form an inclusion complex with 2-hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin. The purpose of this research is to prepare an inclusion complex of prednisone with 2-hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin and characterize them using various analytical techniques. The hypothesis is that the aqueous solubility and bioavailability of prednisone would be enhanced by developing an inclusion complex.
