Title: Rome and Egypt: Corrupt Identities in Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Eric Dunnum , English

In the tragedy Antony and Cleopatra, Shakespeare creates two opposite cultural identities for Rome and Egypt. Mark Antony's position between the two signifies a corruption of his own identity. However, the actual real-life histories of Rome and Egypt contradict the identities Shakespeare designed and, therefore, undermine the idea of a supposed 'corruption' of Antony's identity.
